Human Error Sizzle Reel (2020)

***HUMAN ERROR quarterfinalist in Final Draft's 2020 Big Break Contest*** HUMAN ERROR is a science fiction thriller in the tradition of Minority Report, The Matrix, and Total Recall (1990). Two people, one a disabled war veteran turned technology titan, the other a hot-shot detective with a hidden past, find themselves working together to uncover a series of conspiracies behind the world’s leading Artificial Intelligence program. Along the way they learn that human grit and determination are stronger than any computer program. Credits: Written By: Emily Cooper Editing By: Yuan Chi Wei (Leo) Sound Effects By: Will Feng Want to connect? human.error.the.movie (AT) gmail.com Author Bio: Engineer turned screenwriter, Emily Cooper was born and raised in Toronto and spent her teen years in rural Ontario. Growing up before the age of Netflix and on-demand streaming, she rented every movie she could get her hands on from the local store. She holds an undergraduate degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and a master’s degree from Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario. Emily’s passionate about the arts and has a strong background in dance and music. Human Error was submitted to the Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting (an international screenwriting competition established to identify and encourage talented new screenwriters). Human Error received positive reader scores and placed outside the top 20% of entries. Below are excerpts from the competition’s reader comments: “With the 20th anniversary of The Matrix happening there are a lot of similar scripts out there right now. This is a good one. The voice of the piece shows a lot of control and asks very "now" questions about our over-reliance on technology…” “The script does an impressive job creating suspension of disbelief. The app is extraordinary - but still grounded enough to believe this could actually happen to us. …[T]he writing crafts engaging scenes rife with tension and suspense. They kept me reading, wanting to know what’s next…” “HUMAN ERROR is an unusually fresh take on a theme that’s almost an obsession for the sci-fi genre. The plot is very well thought out and the high concept is strong … relevant and has great cinematic potential.”
